Pedro Arispe (born September 30, 1900 in Cerro , Montevideo , † May 4, 1960 ) was a Uruguayan football player , also known under the name El Indio .

Player career

society

The Montevidean, who comes from Barrio Cerro, began playing football in his youth at Belgrano Oriental and then worked for the Reformers and Albion del Cerro . In 1919 he then joined the Rampla Juniors , led by club president Ernesto Moirano at the time, for whom he played almost exclusively during his entire career. There he made his debut in the team, which was still part of the División Intermedia at the time, and in the following years formed the defender pair with Juan Carlos Vidal until 1927. After winning the Intermedia championship in 1921 , he rose with his teammates to the Primera División , where the Rampla Juniors competed from the following year. At least in the years 1922 to 1924, 1926 to 1929 and 1931 to 1937 he was then part of the team in the most successful phase in the club's history. At that time, in 1927, with Arispe as captain, the team won the only Uruguayan Rojiverdes championship title to date . He formed together with Aguirre and goalkeeper "Pulpo" Ballestrero one of the most outstanding defensive formations in the history of Uruguayan football. He also celebrated with his teammates in 1923, 1928 and 1932 winning three of the seven vice championship titles in the club's history. In his career, Arispe completed over 300 games for the Rampla Juniors in the Primera División and is one of those players with the most appearances in the club or, according to unsecured information, is even the most frequently used player in the Rojiverdes team in the highest Uruguayan league. His time at this club was only interrupted by the European tour of Nacional in 1925, when Arispe joined this club for five months. On the other hand, he did not accompany his Rampla Juniors' European tour four years later, but took part in the tours of his home club in 1930, 1933 and 1936 through Argentina and Chile.

National team

The defender was a member of the Uruguayan national football team for which he completed a total of 19 international matches between May 29, 1924 and November 17, 1929, in which he did not hit the opposing goal. He was able to record winning the gold medal at both the 1924 Summer Olympics and the 1928 Summer Olympics , as well as the tournament victory at the Campeonato Sudamericano in 1924 in his success statistics. During the Campeonato Sudamericano in 1929 he was also a member of the Uruguayan squad and he also worked on the Uruguayan side at the Copa Lipton and the Copa Newton .
