The 183 centimeter tall and 83 kilogram goalkeeper lived and worked in Barrio Cerro as a tractor driver in the local frozen meat factory ( Frigorífico ) Swift . He first played for the teams Solferino , Dublin (1921) and Misiones (1922). From 1924 to 1934 he was then eleven rounds in the ranks of the Rampla Juniors . During his time with the Rojiverdes he formed from 1928 together with Aguirre and Pedro Arispe one of the most outstanding defensive formations in the history of Uruguayan football. In 1927 he was already with his teammates Uruguayan champions, in 1928 and 1932 his club celebrated the runner-up national championship. In 1929 he also went on a major European tour with the Rampla Juniors, during which his club celebrated major victories against Ajax Amsterdam and Olympique Marseille . From 1935 to 1937 he was active for Peñarol . With the Aurinegros he won three other national championship titles in the years 1935 to 1937 and was the goalkeeper of the Black and Yellows in all three seasons. In the entire club membership to Peñarol he remained in the Clásicos called games against arch-rivals Nacional without defeat. He was also on the field for the Aurinegros in 1936 during a night tournament in Argentina with his two important comrades-in-arms Aguirre and Arispe - for the last time in their careers - even though those two actually belonged to the Rampla Juniors. This reunification came about as a result of a loan between the two clubs for the same match. Ballestrero finally ended his career in 1939.
