The Peetzsee belongs to the Grünheide chain of lakes , 35 km southeast of Berlin in the town of Grünheide near Erkner . It has a maximum depth of 25.1 meters, on average 4 to 5 meters. The name is derived from the Slavic word pêsŭkŭ for sand .

The chain of lakes from Möllensee to Werlsee is part of the so-called other inland waterway of the federal Löcknitz (Lö) , which at Erkner in Flakensee has a connection to the federal waterway Rüdersdorfer Gewässer , which uses the lower reaches of the Löcknitz . The Berlin Waterways and Shipping Office is responsible . From a geographical perspective, the chain of lakes forms the Neue Löcknitz . It is a tributary of the Löcknitz and connects the Peetzsee in the form of short canals with the Möllensee to the north (inflow) and the Werlsee to the west (outflow). In summer there is a brisk boat trip, swimming and fishing are permitted. The inland lake is known for its beautiful large carp and tench .
