Vegetative characteristics

The species grows as a geophyte with an underground tuber without peeling peel or periderm and is up to 50 centimeters high when it blooms. The simple leaves are loosely arranged on the annual shoots. The circular blade is cut heart-shaped and the leaf edge is serrated. The upper side of the leaf is clearly hairy and covered with deep rutted veins. The underside of the leaf is deep purple in color.
