Penthagon is an Italian thrash and power metal band from Brescia that was formed in 2008.

history

The band was founded in April 2008 by the drummer Francesco "Parla" Parlatore. A short time later, the singer Marco Spagnuolo and the guitarist and singer Mario Monteverde joined them, before further members were added with the guitarist Alessandro “Cau” Venzi and the bassist Stefano “Selva” Selvatico. In June, the group wrote their first two songs of their own, Shine Like the Sun and In the Name of Peace , after previously covering songs by Annihilator , Nevermore and Vicious Rumors . A short time later, the band gave itself the name Penthagon, which refers to the five members who, like a Pentagon, each bring their elements and thus form a unit. After the summer and a short break associated with it, the band went back to the rehearsal room to write more new songs until the end of the year. In 2009 the group held various appearances. In 2010 further local concerts were given. A three-song demo was also recorded to take part in the Wacken Metal Battle, which resulted in the band being able to play at Wacken Open Air . After that, the group worked on more new songs. In March 2011, work began on the debut album. After pre-production was over, the band went to the Vicenza studio at the end of June to start recording. Parlatore started this, followed by Monteverde and Venzi, then Selvatico and finally Spagnuolo and again Monteverde with their recordings. The self-titled album was released in 2012 on Punishment 18 Records .

Andreas Schiffmann from musikreviews.de assigned the album to power and thrash metal. The group is based heavily on Marcel “Lubricant” Schirmer from Destruction . In the song All I Guess is classic Metal to hear -Gesang which at Forbidden remember and Nevermore to middle period, while the electric guitars in Shine Like the Sun by Exodus would sound and Labyrinth of Fear by Testament at times of Souls of Black and listen to "jittery" Megadeth . The band tries to avoid “mosh, skate and fun clichés” in the songs. Walter from metal.de noted a strong Nevermore influence. Above all, the Nevermore song Seed Awakening can be compared with Penthagon's. Musically, the album is based more on Thrash Metal, with a lot of Power Metal being processed. Characteristic are "technically wacky guitar passages and tricky rhythms, as well as occasional 'highs' by front man Marco Spagnuolo". Groups like Annihilator, Toxik and Realm are stylistically similar to Penthagon .
