Peppino Wieterik

Peppino Wieterik (born February 19, 1919 in Vienna ; † December 22, 1979 ; also Josef Wieterik ) was an Austrian painter.

Life

Peppino Wieterik was born in Vienna- Döbling to a mother from Carinthia and a father of Italian origin. In 1935 he attended the painting class of Paulus and Gerda Matejka-Felden at the Ottakring Adult Education Center on Ludo-Hartmann-Platz. In 1936 he found the painter Alexander Rothaug as a friend and teacher and was accepted as an apprentice for commercial graphics with Paul Kirnig at the Vienna School of Applied Arts. In 1938 he met the painter Hans Robert Pippal . After the annexation of Austria he worked temporarily in road construction. In 1939 there was a Reich labor service in Kirchberg in Tyrol . In the winter semester he was accepted at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Wilhelm Dachauer . In 1940 he was obliged to perform harvest services. In the same year, drawings and oil sketches based on nature were created in the Schönbrunn Zoo under the supervision of the animal painter Karl Fahringer. He was drafted into the German Armed Forces in 1941 and, because of limited suitability , he was a telephone operator in Brno and then Hainburg , allowing further study at the academy. In 1943 he was called up as a map-maker for the General Staff of the German Plenipotentiary General for Croatia in Agram in Zagreb . After American and then French imprisonment, he was released in Wörgl in September 1945 and continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Robin C. Andersen .

Peppino Wieterik married Elsbeth Licht in Vienna in 1943 and in 1945 their daughter Nora was born in Oberaudorf , Germany. After his divorce, he was married to Gertrud Trantina for the second time from 1953, and their daughter Angela saw the light of day in 1958. Peppino Wieterik was buried in 1979 at the Grinzinger Friedhof (group 30, row 2, number 6) in Vienna.
