Per Sandström (born January 11, 1981 in Borås ) is a former Swedish handball goalkeeper who last played for the first division club IK Sävehof .

Career

Per Sandström began playing handball at the age of nine. After initially being an outfield player, he moved into goal after about four years due to a lack of goalkeepers in his team.

In the summer of 2006, Sandström moved from the Swedish club IK Sävehof , with whom he won the Swedish championship in 2004 and 2005, to HSV Hamburg . With HSV he won the Supercup and the European Cup Winners' Cup in his first season . In 2009 and 2010, Sandström won the Supercup two more times with HSV, and in 2011 he was finally German champion. For the 2011/12 season he moved to league rivals MT Melsungen . His contract with MT Melsungen ended in June 2015. He then joined IK Sävehof. He ended his career after the 2017/18 season.

He played 57 international matches for the Swedish national team and was part of the extended squad for the 2010 European Championship .
