Percussion Academia
Percussion Academia is a former world music ensemble that was founded in 1978.
The ensemble consisted of Sigi Schwab (guitar), Guillermo Marchena and Freddie Santiago . Schwab, a classical guitarist with a penchant for jazz-rock fusion, had played with Wolfgang Dauner , Eberhard Schoener , Peter Trunk , and also Art Farmer and Astor Piazzolla in the 1970s , and at the time also worked with Peter Horton ( Guitarissimo 1980) and Chris Hinze ( Backstage 1983). In addition to these guitar formations and his classical recordings, he also wanted to play with drums.
Marchena was involved in Klaus Doldinger's Passport , and Santiago came from Peter Herbolzheimer's Rhythm Combination & Brass . The ensemble is considered to be a representative of early world music .
They worked together for 15 years, recorded several CDs and went on numerous tours. In 1984 they performed at the 1st Ingolstadt Jazz Days, among others .
From 1987 Hilko Schomerus played in the project for almost a year. Sigi Schwab changed the ensemble name Percussion Academia to Percussion Projekt after Marchena's early demise in 1994 and continued the group with Andreas Keller and Ramesh Shotham .
The debut album Rondo a Tre was recorded in April 1983 at Union Studios in Munich. The first edition was pressed using the then controversial DMM process.
