Persecution is an Australian death and thrash metal band from Seaford , which was founded in 1987 under the name No Remorse .

history

The band was formed in 1987 under the name No Remorse, but changed its name to Persecution after the release of the demo Stroke of Death . On the demo you can hear Anthony "Nats" McRoberts as singer and Paul "Shirty" Shirt as drummer. After the name change, the band consisted of guitarists Merm and Jezz Sauzier, bassist Bo Remy and drummer Dakka. The group then recorded another demo, which appeared in 1989 under the name Tortured Existence . Jezz Sauzier also took over the vocals for this. Through the demo, the group was able to make themselves better known, but they could not get a record deal. The band sold nearly 15,000 copies and was named the best band without a record deal by Metal Forces magazine in 1990 . In March 2010 the guitarist Merm Sauzier died after a long illness of cancer. In 2016, Dark Symphonies Records released the compilation Tortured Existence , which consists of the demo of the same name and other bonus songs. The sound carrier was published in an edition of 1,000 copies.

style

According to thethrashmetalguide.com the band played a mix of speed and thrash metal under the name No Remorse , reminiscent of Iron Angel , Toxis World Circus (but without the technically demanding tendencies) and Agent Steel . After the name change, the group played aggressive Thrash Metal, which can be classified between Slayer and early Death . The riffs are fast and technically demanding and comparable to the destruction of the 1980s. For Nick Statudo of thegauntlet.com , Stroke of Death begins with a standard Thrash Metal riff, with the drums not kicking in as quickly as expected. The following songs also lack drum presence. The singing is mostly shouting borrowed from punk , but occasionally falsetto singing is also used. Tortured Existence is much more aggressive, so that the group not only sounds formally because of the name change, but also acoustically, like another band. The demo is a mixture of death and thrash metal in the style of Kreator , Sepultura , Sacrifice and Possessed . The vocals, which will now be taken over by Jezz Sauzier, sound more guttural than that of Steve Dunham, so that it is more comparable to that of Jeff Becerra (Possessed). In addition, the music is now also faster.
