Pessimist is a German thrash metal band from the Weil am Rhein area .

history

In the summer of 2006, Michael "TZ" Schweitzer (vocals), Patrick "Peppi" Pfefferle (guitar) and Robin Maurer (guitar) founded the band in a pub. Then came Raphael "Zagge" Gamboni (drums, at that time with "Daemogorgon") and Severin "Sevi" Wössner (bass). The first rehearsal room in Weil am Rhein was shared with Paintin 'Roses .

The band held their first appearance on March 3, 2007 in the Sternen space station in Auggen . By winning the "Baden in Blut - Blood Battle Contest", Pessimist was able to qualify for the Baden in Blut Open Air Festival . Then the first Nuclear Holocaust demo was recorded in the house of guitarist Pfefferle. The magazine Metal Hammer certified the band "to be oldschool except for the underpants" and announced an appearance at Metal in de Ränke in October . For lack of time, guitarist Robin left the band and was replaced on November 1, 2007 by Richard "Richie" Beck. Appearances at the New Year Metal Meeting and the Seek and Destroy Part 5 in Austria followed.

Mike Wanner was considered the sixth band member and made his contribution to the organization. At the invitation of Destruction of Violence , the band traveled with Wanner to Wolfsberg in Austria , where the demo Pessimist was recorded. Two months later the band traveled with some fans to the Thrash 'em Down Festival in Stuttgart , where the band Fatal Embrace played among others .

In December 2008 the live CD Live was recorded at the SAK in Lörrach and produced in-house. Then the band moved the rehearsal room to Basel in the hobby room of their drummer Gamboni.

The band wanted to record their first album in the Iguana Studio near Freiburg im Breisgau with Christoph Brandes (recordings for Necrophagist , Unlight etc.). After guitarist Beck lost due to illness, Pessimist devoted two weeks to her first album Call to War in December 2009 . The album was published with a first edition of 500 copies on March 27, 2010 at the Culturium in Basel. The sub-label Firefield Records offered the band a distribution contract, which was accepted. After appearing with Diamond Head , Blitzkrieg , Crystal Viper and Hyades in November at the Metal Forces Festival in Lörrach, new editions of the debut Call to War were released via EMG / Firefield Records.

Founding member Peppi had to withdraw from the band's activities for private reasons in mid-2012. His place was replaced by "Tormentor" Eric Tobian. Several gigs were played in Germany, including the Metal Acker Tennenbronn near Schramberg and the Metal Embrace Festival near Magdeburg . In November, the recordings for the second album Death From Above began , again in the Iguana Studio with Christoph Brandes.

style

The music of Pessimist is based on the old-school - thrash metal from the 1980s and 1990s. Several critics compared the music with the German bands Kreator , Sodom and Destruction . Pessimists have also been compared to bands like Exodus and Testament . Pessimists play both mid-tempo passages and very fast, driving riffs. Their music is sometimes described as "Old School Teutonic Thrash".

The texts are mostly in English. The opening tracks of the albums are minor exceptions (see barrels ). The lyrics are about war, hatred and self-abandonment. Usually a pessimistic worldview is represented.
