Petar Matic Dule

Petar Matić Dule (born July 7, 1920 in Irig ( Syrmia ), Yugoslavia ) is a former Yugoslav general and politician.

Life

Petar Matić joined the Communist Party of Yugoslavia as a student . After the German attack on Yugoslavia began , he joined the People's Liberation Army . There he used the code name Dule . He was the commander of various brigades in Vojvodina . At the end of the war he was a lieutenant colonel and completed training in Moscow . In 1953 he was promoted to major general. In 1980 he retired with the rank of lieutenant general .

From 1978 to 1980 and from 1986 he was a member of the Central Committee of the Union of Communists of Yugoslavia. From 1982 he was a member of the party's executive committee, where he was responsible for economic policy. From 1986 he was a member of the Presidium of the Yugoslav Veterans Association.

Honors

In 1951 he was named the popular hero of Yugoslavia ( Narodni heroj Jugoslavije ). He is considered to be the last living male holder of this honorary title.

family

Matić's mother died in Jasenovac concentration camp , and his father was tortured to death during the war. All five siblings were partisans. His sister Anka Matić Grozda (1918–1944) was declared a popular hero of Yugoslavia in 1953.

He is married and has two daughters. He lives in Belgrade .
