Life

Sometimes Peter Alberg Holm is confused with Petur Alberg , the composer of the Faroese national anthem, Tú alfagra land mítt ( You my most beautiful country ), whose text is by Símun av Skarði .

Peter Alberg is the son of the parish priest of Nordstreymoy, Niels Lassen Holm († 1839). In 1832 he was sent to Copenhagen for training, where he graduated from Københavns Borgerdydskole in 1841 . In 1849 he became a teacher in Aarhus .

Peter Alberg was particularly interested in his home country, the Faroe Islands, which he visited again in the summer of 1844. His first book was Skildringer og sagn fra Færøerne (Descriptions and legends of the Faroe Islands) in 1856. He has also written a number of magazine and newspaper articles with religious, linguistic and scientific content. He also wrote some hymns and prayers.

In 1851 he married Petra Conradine Stæger († 1869).

In 1855 Peter Alberg moved to Roskilde . In 1862 he became parish priest in Vetterslev and Høm near Ringsted , and in 1869 in Dalum. After the death of his first wife, he married the pastor's daughter Anna Fenger in 1872. From 1880 he was pastor in Gamtofte on Funen , where he died in 1892 at the age of 68.
