Peter Bardens (born June 19, 1944 in London , England , † January 22, 2002 in Malibu , California ) was a British rock musician . The keyboardist and singer became known with the band Camel .

Life

Bardens began his musical career with the band "Cheynes". For a short time he played with Them . In 1966 he directed the "Peter B's Looners", with Mick Fleetwood on drums and Peter Green on guitar. They recorded the single If You Wanna Be Happy , but were then integrated into Shotgun Express with Rod Stewart .

Then Bardens played in The Love Affair and formed the band Village . In 1970 he released his first solo album The Answer , with the support of Peter Green and Andy Gee . Peter Bardens ' second album , with Victor Brox from Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation , is considered more balanced.

In 1971 Bardens joined the group "The Brew", which was renamed Camel . The band released some classic progressive rock albums . 1978 Bardens left the band in a dispute with Andy Latimer .

In the second half of the 1970s he took up solo albums again. In the 1980s he published all productions under the name Pete Bardens. In 1984 he produced the title On the Air Tonight by Willy Finlayson, which can be heard among other things on the soundtrack for the film Nightmare II . In 1987 Bardens achieved a chart success with the single In Dreams . The song reached number 32 in the German single charts . In 1994 he founded a rock band called "Mirage" with three other musicians, which until 1997 released two live albums.

Peter Bardens died of lung cancer in January 2002 . His grave is in Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Hollywood, California. Finally, Bardens and Latimer were gradually getting closer again. They even planned a reunion. After Peter Bardens' death, Latimer dedicated Camel's last studio album, A Nod and a Wink, to his early companion .
