Peter Benedix (documentary filmmaker)

Peter Benedix (* 1980 in Lutherstadt Wittenberg ) is a German documentary filmmaker .

Life

Benedix first studied computer visualistics at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg .

While driving a car in September 2007, he heard a radio report about the planned devastation of the villages of Kerkwitz , Atterwasch and Grabko in the Lusatian lignite district . After two weeks Benedix first went to Kerkwitz, where he talked to the residents about the planned resettlement. He also spoke to representatives from the Vattenfall company . His first documentary Heimat auf Zeit was made from the film material . The film premiered in the village church of Kerkwitz in front of 250 viewers. The film was later shown at the Max Ophüls Prize film festival in 2010.

Benedix names the Lausitz trilogy by Peter Rocha and the two Otzenrath documentaries by Jens Schanze as cinematic models for his project .

Four years later he returned to Lusatia and began shooting his second film Bridge Years . In order not to endanger the credibility of the project, Benedix turned down offers for financing from environmental associations, the mining industry or the Brandenburg state government and instead started a crowdfunding campaign. The film was shown at DOK Leipzig 2014 , among others .

Four more years later, Benedix published the film Wor you hang your heart on , the documentary about the Reformation anniversary in Lutherstadt Wittenberg .
