Peter Eduard Bolzano

Peter Eduard Bolzano , also Petrus Eduardus Bolzano (* 1793 in Prague ; † April 12, 1818 ibid) is an Austrian - Bohemian doctor.

Life

Peter was one of twelve children of the art dealer Bernard Bolzano (1737-1816), who had come to Prague as a child from his hometown of Nesso ( Como province , Italy), and Cäcilie Maurer (1753-1821), daughter of a German ironmonger in Prague. He was the younger brother of the theologian and philosopher Bernard Bolzano (1781–1848), who was twelve years his junior and who strongly influenced the younger man's upbringing.

Bolzano studied medicine at the Charles University in Prague . He received his doctorate there in 1818 with his dissertation De momentis diagnosticis, quibus phthisis pitvitosa ab ulcerosa distingui potest (Prague 1818). He distinguished himself through top performance, which is why he is said to have been given the professorship of the medical clinic and special therapy for surgeons at the university immediately afterwards . However, this may be doubted.

He died of typhoid at the age of 25 after contracting it while treating patients.
