Peter Demnitz
Peter Demnitz (born October 9, 1950 in Hagen ) is a politician of the SPD and was Lord Mayor of the independent city of Hagen in the eastern Ruhr area from 2004 to October 21, 2009 .
After attending the Goethe elementary school in Hagen-Boele , he trained as a high-voltage electrician at the Kabel paper mill . This was followed by further training to become a state-certified electrical engineer.
After 20 years in the job at Stora Enso , at the same time union and socio-political training, Peter Demnitz became managing director of the SPD in Hagen in 1985.
In 2004 Demnitz was able to narrowly prevail against the candidate Christoph Gerbersmann ( CDU ) after a runoff election. In Hagen, the SPD and CDU agreed to work together on all important issues in order to form a stable majority in the Hagen City Council.
On May 16, 2008, Demnitz announced that it would not run again as an OB candidate in the 2009 election. His successor in office was the CDU politician Jörg Dehm .
