Erik Olaf Schulz (born August 11, 1965 in Hagen ), a German graduate in administration and business administration , is a non-party politician , former member of the SPD , and since the runoff election on June 15, 2014, mayor of the independent city of Hagen in the southeastern Ruhr area .

After attending primary school and graduating from Fichte-Gymnasium Hagen in 1985, Schulz did his community service at the Diakonisches Werk Hagen. From September 1987 to August 1990 Schulz completed an apprenticeship as a graduate in administrative management at the University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration in North Rhine-Westphalia , and from September 1990 to October 1993 an extra-occupational course with a focus on administrative business administration at the Hagen Administrative Academy. From 1992 to 1994 Schulz was head of the coordination office for employment promotion in the city of Hagen, then from 1994 head of the regional secretariat of HABEQ (Hagener Employment and Qualification Promotion GmbH) and from 1997 to 2000 authorized signatory of HABEQ. From 2001 to 2014 Schulz was managing director of agentur mark GmbH, a municipal subsidiary that is responsible for the implementation of labor policy programs of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the EU in the Märkische region.

In February 2014, the CDU, FDP and Greens presented Schulz across all parties as a joint candidate for the mayoral election of the city of Hagen. In the election on May 25, 2014 Schulz was able to prevail with 47.8% against the second-placed SPD candidate Horst Wisotzki (35.6%), in the runoff election on June 15, he reached 62.7% and took the office of Mayor after the resignation of the previous incumbent Jörg Dehm on June 23, 2014.

Erik O. Schulz is married to Kerstin Würfel, who works as a social worker at primary schools in Hagen. The Schulz-Würfel couple have a daughter and a son. Schulze's honorary functions include or included a. the chairmanship of the board of the Hagener Forum Employment eV, the board membership in the technical promotion South Westphalia eV and until September 2014 the chairmanship of the school caretaker at the Fichte-Gymnasium Hagen.
