Peter Deyhle

Peter Deyhle (born November 20, 1936 in Stuttgart ) is a Swiss gastroenterologist . The endoscopic removal of intestinal polyps that he introduced (which, according to Bert Vogelstein, can be precursors to malignant colon cancer) is now widely used in preventive examinations ( colonoscopy ).

Life

Deyhle received training in internal medicine at the Werdohl Municipal Hospital and the Erlangen University Hospital . In the pathology intermediate station he spent two years at the University of Mainz and also worked there in radiology for one year . He received further training in gastroenterology at the University Clinic Erlangen. In 1971 he was a senior physician at the Medical Polyclinic University Hospital Zurich . In 1973 he received his habilitation , and in 1976 he was given a professorship.

He wrote over 350 scientific publications, including new methods and first interventions. In the mid-1970s he initiated a research project on laparoscopic cholecystectomy , appendectomy and vagotomy of the stomach, and received a research loan from the Helmut Horten Villalta Foundation. The project was discontinued due to a lack of surgical support. 1980 Deyhle left the university and devoted himself to other tasks.
