Research priorities

Public Value Network

In his research, Gomez has focused on different areas over time:

  • Complexity / system theory : In his dissertation, which he wrote together with Fredmund Malik and Karl-Heinz Oeller, Gomez deals with system methodology as an approach to researching and designing complex socio-technical systems. With the method of networked thinking, he and Gilbert Probst developed an instrument with which complex problem relationships can be visualized and analyzed. The method enables the representation of complex problems in a dynamic environment. An important element is the representation of different mechanisms of action in cycles and networks (see picture).
  • Value management: Gomez is considered to be one of the scientists who took up the value creation approach in the sense of Rappaport ( shareholder value ) very early on and introduced it into the European debate. Gomez sees value management as a "way (instruction) to a sustainable increase in the value of the company." (Gomez, 1993, p. 10) He is of the opinion that successful companies in their strategic orientation aim at economic success, social responsibility and environmental compatibility at the same time should. For him, this results in the further development towards a stakeholder approach.
  • Social value creation / Public Value : Building on his work on value management, Peter Gomez researches the social value creation of organizations together with Timo Meynhardt as part of the Public Value research program at the University of St. Gallen . Together with Timo Meynhardt he has developed a Public Value Scorecard (PVSC) and was instrumental in the development and publication of the first public welfare Atlas participate Switzerland.
