Research interests

In his research, Meynhardt combines psychological and business topics:

  • Public Value / Common Good : Meynhardt developed the St. Gallen Public Value approach in the tradition of Peter Drucker's thinking and the St. Gallen management model based on Hans Ulrich and Walter Krieg . On the basis of philosophical, psychological and sociological theories, the social added value of an organization is conceptually recorded and empirically examined. With this Meynhardt tries to answer the question of the common good contribution of companies, public administrations and non-governmental organizations for management. Under his leadership, the Swiss Public Value Atlas was developed, which makes the contribution to the common good of the largest companies and organizations transparent from the point of view of the population. After 2014, 2015 and 2017, the fourth atlas was published on September 22, 2019. Such a public value atlas was drawn up for Germany in 2015 and May 2019.
  • Competence management: His interest is directed towards the analysis and evaluation of individual competencies and their connection with the company's core competencies.
  • Leipzig leadership model: As a member of the core team of the HHL - Leipzig Graduate School of Management , he developed a "Leipzig leadership model" together with Manfred Kirchgeorg , Andreas Pinkwart , Andreas Suchanek and Henning Zülch . In it, the contribution to the common good (public value) is characterized as a purpose (sense and purpose) that is oriented towards social benefit and thereby receives its motivational and legitimation function. Public value thus becomes a resource for good leadership. According to the Leipzig formula, a purpose always needs a reference to the common good.

Instrument development

So far, Meynhardt has developed three sociological diagnostic methods:

  • WertwissensGuide: Based on Peter Orlik's "self-concept grid", which is in the tradition of the repertory grid by George A. Kelly , Meynhardt has developed a grid variant for analyzing value knowledge in organizations.
  • “My competency profile”: With this internet-based diagnostic procedure, Meynhardt has developed a new type of procedure for the collection and automated analysis of basic competencies. The conceptual reference point is the concept of competence according to John Erpenbeck and Volker Heyse .
  • Public Value Scorecard (together with Peter Gomez ): This instrument converts Meynhardt's public value theory into a scorecard. The five available variants can be adapted to a wide range of issues relating to corporate development.
