Peter Gwynn-Jones

Peter Llewellyn Gwynn-Jones wears the robe of an officer of the Order of the Garter .

Sir Peter Gwynn-Jones KCVO FSA (* 1940 in Cape Town ; † August 21, 2010 ) was an English heraldist and genealogist and from 1995 to March 31, 2010 the highest-ranking English heraldic king Garter Principal King of Arms and thus head of the heralds of the college of Arms .

biography

He attended Wellington College, Berkshire, and studied at Trinity College , Cambridge . After graduating in 1970, he became assistant to the then Garter King of Arms, Sir Anthony Richard Wagner. In 1973 he was appointed a full member of the College of Arms as a herald's assistant Bluemantle Pursuivant of Arms . Promoted to the Lancaster Herald of Arms in 1982 , he assumed the post of house overseer at the college. In 1995 he became Garter Principal King of Arms.

Gwynn-Jones was appointed inspector of regimental flags in 1995 and inspector of the Royal Air Force insignia in 1996 . As Garter Principal King of Arms 1995, he became a genealogist of the highest English Order, the Order of the Garter , the Order of the Bath , of the Order of St Michael and St George and St John in England.

Orders, awards and memberships

Gwynn-Jones became Lieutenant (LVO) in 1994 and Commander (CVO) of the Royal Victorian Order in 1998 . In 2010 he became Knight Commander of this order. 1976 Serving Brother (SBStJ) and 1995 Knight (KStJ) of the Order of St. John .

Since 1997 he was a member of the Society of Antiquaries of London . From 1981 to 1994 he was Secretary of the Harleian Genealogical-Heraldic Society and in 1996 Vice-President of the Heraldic Society of London.
