Thomas Woodcock , CVO , DL , FSA (born May 20, 1951 ) is an English lawyer , genealogist and heraldist. Since April 1, 2010 he has been Garter Principal King of Arms at the College of Arms in London.

career

Woodcock began his school career at the renowned Eton College . He received his Bachelor of Arts at the University of Durham and his Bachelor of Laws at Darwin College of the University of Cambridge . He then entered the London Inner Temple Bar .

His heraldic career began in 1975 as a research assistant to Sir Anthony Wagner, who was then Garter Principal King of Arms . In 1978 he was appointed Rouge Croix Pursuivant , and in 1982 the Somerset Herald . Woodcock held this office until his appointment as Norroy and Ulster King of Arms on April 29, 1997. With effect from April 1, 2010 he was appointed Garter Principal King of Arms and thus the supreme herald of England.

Orders, awards and memberships

Woodcock has been a Lieutenant in the Royal Victorian Order (LVO) since 1996 . In December 2005 Thomas Woodcock became Deputy Lord Lieutenant for the County of Lancashire . He is a member of the Society of Antiquaries of London and, since 1998, of the Roxburghe Club , the oldest bibliophile club in the world. He was named Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO) on the 2011 Birthday Honors List .
