Peter Hübner (table tennis player)

Peter Hübner (born December 13, 1938 in Wuppertal ; † February 28, 2020 in Mettmann ) was a German table tennis player . He was a three-time senior world champion.

Hübner 1961/62 reached the national ranking tournament in fifth place. In 1962 he was nominated three times for international matches. At the European Championship in 1962 he finished third with the German team, winning all three games in the team fights without losing a set.

Hübner started at a predecessor club of ASV Wuppertal . From here he moved to Wuppertaler SV , where he played until 1962, then at Post SV Düsseldorf and Borussia Düsseldorf , with whom he won the German team championship three times in a row from 1969 to 1971. In 1975 he moved to the regional league club Heiligenhaus before returning to Borussia Düsseldorf in 1980. He later played for the clubs Wuppertaler SV, Mettmanner TV and Borussia Düsseldorf (from 1999).

From 1980 onwards, Hübner was six times German champion in singles and eight times in doubles. In 1982 he won the singles and doubles titles with Ernst Gomolla at the Senior World Championships in Gothenburg in the over 40 age group . Two years later he defended the individual title in Helsinki.

By profession, Peter Hübner was a qualified engineer for air conditioning and refrigeration technology.
