Peter Hanfland

Peter Hanfland (born June 20, 1940 in Gelsenkirchen-Buer ; † October 2, 2019 in Bonn ) was a German hematologist , transfusion specialist and university professor .

Life

Hanfland studied medicine at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . From 1960 he was a member of the Catholic student union AV Guestfalia Tübingen . In 1967 he was charged with a dissertation on the cholestasis at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Bonn for MD PhD .

In 1978 he completed his habilitation at the University of Bonn and was appointed adjunct professor there in 1983. He received a C3 professorship in Bonn in 1986 and in 1987 became the medical director of the transfusion medicine department at the University of Tübingen. In 1989 he became full professor and director of the Institute for Experimental Hematology and Transfusion Medicine at the University of Bonn, where he retired in 2005. Hanfland was the founder of the Haemotherapy Research Foundation and its chairman for 25 years.

Research and Teaching

The focus of his scientific work was on transfusion medicine , experimental hematology , immunohematology , hemotherapy and hemostaseology .
