Peter Hofer (born October 2, 1905 in St. Michael near Kastelruth , † December 2, 1943 in Bolzano ) was a National Socialist politician in the 1930s and 1940s and since 1943 an “ ethnic group leader ” in South Tyrol .

Hofer was born as the son of the landlords Anton Hofer and Barbara. Told born. After his parents moved to Bolzano, he learned the tailoring trade , which he subsequently practiced as a master.

Hofer became a leading exponent of the Optanten for Germany and played an important role during the time of the German occupation within the framework of the Alpine Foreland operational zone .

Among other things, he held the following offices:

  • In 1933 he became district leader of the National Socialist VKS Bozen, from 1935 he was regional leader.
  • In 1940 Hofer became managing director of the AdO , the organization of South Tyroleans who wanted to emigrate to the German Reich.
  • After the invasion of the Germans (see OpA ) he was appointed Prefect of the Province of Bolzano on September 21, 1943 by the Supreme Commissioner Franz Hofer .

On December 2, 1943, he and his three companions Josef Vieider, Luis Bernard and Josef Alfreider were killed by an aerial bomb during an inspection trip in Bolzano. Hofer's body was first laid out in public in the Bolzano town hall , where the official memorial service of the Nazi authorities took place on December 5, 1943, then transferred to Castelrotto for burial. On the same day, his successor Karl Tinzl was appointed.
