Peter II. Scherenberger (also Petrus II .; * In Bad Brückenau ; † June 1, 1658 in Koppenwind ) was abbot of the Cistercian monastery in Ebrach from 1646 to 1658 .

Life

Peter Scherenberger was born in the second half of the 16th or first quarter of the 17th century in Brückenau in Lower Franconia , today's Bad Brückenau. Nothing is known about his parents, nor is the schooling of the future abbot mentioned in the sources. The young Peter Scherenberger probably studied in order to begin a monastic career in the Cistercian abbey.

Scherenberger did not reappear until he was elected on the day of Ursula in 1646, October 21, 1646. His predecessor Heinrich VI. The gatekeeper had died just days earlier and a successor had to be chosen quickly. His election took place under the chairmanship of the abbot of Langheim Abbey , Johann Gagel. He was consecrated in Würzburg by Bishop Johann Philipp von Schönborn , and Remigius Winckel from the Münsterschwarzach Monastery was also designated together with Petrus Scherenberger .

With the end of the Thirty Years War and the entry into force of the Peace of Westphalia, Ebrach was able to reclaim the lost areas around Schweinfurt from the Free Imperial City. So Weyer was returned. In the same year, the abbot also had the damage to the buildings repaired by the war. Abbot Peter also began to pay off the 8,000 guilders debt .

The end of the long war also meant that more monks and professed monks were again welcomed into the monastery. A total of 28 new convent members came to the abbey. Abbot Peter also had a philosophical and theological study place built on site for the many new monks. He also had the walls of the abbey church repainted with frescoes and several altars set up inside the church.

Abbot Peter Scherenberger was also involved within the order of the Cistercians. So he took part in the General Chapter in 1651 . In 1653 and 1654 he attended the national chapters in Donauwörth and Rottweil, respectively. Here he settled disputes between Abbot Valentin Mammel and Bernhard von Neuburg. In the course of his tenure, Abbot Peter also appointed other abbots. He consecrated Mauritius Knauer von Bronnbach in 1649 and later the abbot of Banz Monastery. Peter Scherenberger died on June 1, 1658 in the cloister courtyard in Koppenwind.
