Peter Kopp

Peter Kopp (* 1967 in Wernigerode ) is a German choir director and conductor .

After completing school as a member of the Dresden Kreuzchor , he initially trained as a church musician. He then studied choral and orchestral conducting with Siegfried Kurz and Hans-Dieter Pflüger at the Dresden University of Music . As a student he already directed the Dresden Bach Choir.

From 1995 to 2017 Kopp was the choir conductor of the Dresden Kreuzchor, which he was entrusted with conducting during a vacancy at the Kreuzkantorat in 1996. Since October 2017 he has been rector and lecturer for choir and orchestra conducting at the Evangelical University for Church Music in Halle .

Peter Kopp has been leading the Vocal Concert Dresden (formerly the Körnerscher Sing-Verein), a semi-professional chamber choir, which he founded in 1993 . He also takes on rehearsals for renowned choirs. In addition, he worked regularly as a guest conductor with the "Bach Society" in Houston / Texas .

He is particularly interested in discovering treasures from Saxon music history.

In 2002 he received the Johann Walter plaque from the Saxon Music Council and in 2003 the sponsorship award from the state capital of Dresden .
