Peter Kulitz

Peter Kulitz (born April 11, 1952 in Mindelheim / Swabia ) is a German business lawyer , entrepreneur and association official . From November 2010 to November 2016 he was President of the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Commerce and Industry .

education

After graduating from the Waldorf School in Ulm, Kulitz studied law and economics at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen and the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich (1971–1976) and at Georgetown University ( Washington DC , 1980). In 1983 he received his PhD with the dissertation “Entrepreneur donations to political parties” at the chair for German and European corporate, capital market, commercial, banking and business law at the University of Tübingen. jur. PhD.

Kulitz's doctoral thesis was published in 1983 by Duncker & Humblot , Berlin, at the time of the party donation affair, in which politicians such as Otto Graf Lambsdorff , Hans Friedrichs and Walter Leisler Kiep were involved. Due to its relevance to corporate law, the work was picked up in the media, for example in the ZEIT articles “Use all moral values…” / “With other people's money”, and it was part of the basis for the discussion about a party financing law (see, for example, Public Administration ).

Career history

Kulitz completed his legal traineeship at the Ulm Regional Court. After being admitted to the bar in 1980, he joined a law firm in Ulm, which he subsequently continued. In 2016, the merger with the law firm of the lawyer Thomas Oelmayer took place .

Parallel to his work as a lawyer, Kulitz joined his parents' family business in 1986 and became a managing partner there in 1997.

Association activity

In 1979 he joined the Ulm Business School , where he was chairman from 1986 to 1989. In 2001 he became a member of the General Assembly of the Ulm Chamber of Commerce, in 2002 he was elected to the Presidium and since 2003 Kulitz has been President of the Chamber of Commerce. In this function he was involved in the founding of the International School Ulm / Neu-Ulm (ISU) (2005) and was the initiator of the founding of the Friedrichhafen Institute for Family Businesses (FIF), which was funded by the Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen as part of the IHK took place.

In 2006, Kulitz was elected to the board of the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BWIHK); since 2010 he has been President of the BWIHK. In 2011 he was appointed to the board of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK).

Kulitz is controversial in political discourse. For example, he demanded the suspension of the minimum wage for refugees and clearly positioned himself in favor of the ' S 21 ' and high-speed railway line Stuttgart-Ulm through a poster campaign on the IHK building. In the run-up to the referendum on S 21, he provoked the anger of the project opponents who took legal action. As a result, Kulitz and the Ulm Chamber of Commerce were sued for an injunction before the Sigmaringen administrative court. The first-instance judgment, according to which limits were set for a general political mandate from IHK functionaries, did not stand in the following appellate instance before the Administrative Court (VGH) Mannheim, because the litigants declared the main matter to be settled in an out-of-court settlement.

His participation in delegations also ensures media coverage, for example with Winfried Kretschmann , Federal Minister of Economics Sigmar Gabriel and Federal President Joachim Gauck .
