Peter Lenz (musician)

Peter Lenz (* 1987 ) is an Austrian jazz drummer.

Lenz grew up in Straden in Southeast Styria; at the age of nine he started playing the drums . His teacher Karlheinz Miklin aroused his interest in jazz. He studied at the University of Music and Drama in Graz with Howard Curtis . After graduating in 2011, he lived in Rotterdam ; In 2012 he and his band Silent Flow released the album It Is But It's Not ( Unit Records ), on which Adrian Kleinlosen (trombone), Raphael Meinhart (vibraphone), Manfred Temmel (guitar), Lukas Raumberger (double bass) participated. In 2013 he went to New York , continued his studies with a Fulbright Scholarship and studied drums and composition with John Riley , Jim McNeely and Mike Holober in the Masters program at the Manhattan School of Music . He currently leads the formation Lithium (with saxophonist and clarinetist Chris Speed , Reinier Baas on guitar, Stefan Lievestro on bass), for which he also composes.

Private

When he is on home vacation in the summer, he helps - in July 2016 - with picking blueberries in Straden, in the business that his brother took over from his parents.
