Peter Loew (painter)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Peter Loew (born January 28, 1931 in Schliersee , † July 1, 2012 in Munich ) was a German painter .

Life

At a young age, Loew attracted attention through drawings and watercolors. At the age of 15 he began self-taught with oil painting. On predominantly religious topics, such as the adoration of the shepherds, the Descent from the Cross, the crowning of thorns and the pieta, the first works were created, which in their way aspired to his great role models, in the "old masterly manner", as he himself called it in his description of his life (1975). After training as a painter in Schliersee, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts from 1951 to 1957 in Hermann Kaspar's master class in Munich. His study trips by train and bike took him to Sicily, Taormina and later to Sweden.

As part of a large art exhibition from June 4 to October 3, 1954, he had his first exhibition in the Haus der Kunst in Munich. 1960 to 1975 he had a teaching position for free painting at the educational science faculty of the University of Munich . From 1960 to 1983 he lived in a living and studio community with the sculptor Karin Saalmann. He is co-editor of a book about Karin Saalmann (2008). In his studio in Munich-Schwabing he created “element” and “joint pictures”, which became a mainstay of his artistic work. An extensive collection of sound carriers, etc. a. Works by Johann Sebastian Bach served as inspiration, especially for his fugue pictures, and show the special bond with this composer. He created watercolors parallel to the element pictures. His works found their way into the cover design for the series “workshop reports” by morethanlearning mtt consulting network GmbH. He composed and wrote some songs in Bavarian dialect and wrote aphorisms.
