Peter Maßmann (* 13. February 1916 ; † 20th February 2000 in Saulheim in Mainz ) was a German theater actor - director and - intendant .

Life

Peter Maßmann trained as an actor and director at the State Drama School in Hamburg from 1937 to 1939. He gained his first experience as an actor at the Rostock City Theater and the Oldenburg State Theater .

After the war he was first an actor at the Stadttheater Wuppertal , then from 1950 (or even earlier) until 1960 an actor at the Städtische Bühnen Gelsenkirchen , where he was also employed as an assistant director in 1953 and from the following year directed plays and operettas himself . In his last year in Gelsenkirchen he was the deputy general manager. This was followed by his first directorship at the Osnabrück Theater am Domhof from 1960 to 1968.

In 1967 Maßmann was traded for one of the four vacant directorships in Braunschweig , Aachen , Basel and Wiesbaden . In fact, in 1968 he became General Director of the Aachen City Theaters . He worked there until the end of 1980 and was officially adopted in a ceremony on June 24, 1981. During his tenure, Maßmann succeeded in converting the theater into a municipal company . He was able to increase the occupancy rate of his own house and sign a contract for 40 guest performances with the city of Rheydt . Its innovations also include the inclusion of musicals in the program.

His daughter Yvonne Maßmann (* 1950) was an actress at the Stadttheater Gießen . It is to her that Maßmann owes the discovery and engagement of tenor Willy Schell, who would otherwise have moved from Gießen to Augsburg instead of establishing a decades-long bond with Aachen.
