Peter Meyn (born April 8, 1749 in Copenhagen , Denmark ; † April 11, 1808 there ) was a Danish court architect and city ​​architect of Copenhagen.

He was the son of master tailor Anton (Anthoni) Christian Meyn and Helene Klefts. Meyn married Mette Marie Jensen (born August 24, 1763 in Maribo; † September 23, 1785 in Copenhagen), the daughter of the merchant and shipowner Peder Jensen and Anna Marie Reimer, on March 14, 1783 in Maribo ( island of Lolland ) . His son from his first marriage, Christian Meyn (1785–1826), also became an architect. In his second marriage, Meyn married on July 3, 1786 in Copenhagen Charlotte Amalie Avemann (born February 14, 1763 in Copenhagen, † March 13, 1830 ibid), the daughter of Johan Vilhelm Avemann and Charlotte Amalie Svendsen.

Life

Meyn studied a. a. with Caspar Frederik Harsdorff . After completing his training at the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen, he began building his first buildings in 1768. In the years from 1777 to 1779 he made a study tour through France , then he stayed in Italy from 1779 to 1782 . In 1783 he was in Norway .

In 1783 he became professor of construction at the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen, whose director he was from 1797 to 1799. From 1785 to 1789 he was the teacher of Axel Bundsen (1768-1832).

At the same time (1785–1787) Meyn was working on the construction of the "Kongelige Kirurgiske Akademi", the "Royal Surgical Academy", in the Copenhagen district of Frederikstaden. Today the University of Copenhagen's Medical History Museum is located in this building.

In 1789 Meyn was appointed Danish court architect and later he was the city architect of Copenhagen.

After 1800 he stayed in Norway again, especially in Bergen after the great fire. In 1806, two years before his death, he completed his last building contract.
