Live and act

After attending primary school at Schloss Zeil and high school in Leutkirch im Allgäu with high school diploma in 1981, Peter Nick began studying biology at the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg (1981-1986) with a semester abroad at the University of St Andrews in Scotland .

The diploma examination in biology in Freiburg with a grade of very good (1986) was followed by postgraduate studies with a doctorate (1990). After research stays in the Frontier Research Program, Wako-shi in Japan and at the CNRS-IBMP in Strasbourg , Peter Nick completed his habilitation and received the Venia legendi in botany (1996). As an assistant or senior assistant at the Institute for Biology II, Freiburg, he became head of the junior research group “Dynamics of the Plant Cell Skeleton - Molecular Cell Biology in Vivo”, which was set up by the VW Foundation.

In 2003 Peter Nick accepted the professorship “Molecular Cell Biology” at the Botanical Institute 1 at the University of Karlsruhe , of which he became head in 2005. From 2004 to 2014 he was also Dean of Studies at the Faculty of Chemistry and Biosciences. He turned down offers to the universities of Frankfurt, Darmstadt and Salzburg.

He and Mathias Gutmann received the State Teaching Prize Baden-Württemberg in 2015 for the FKI initiative.

Peter Nick is married and has two children.
