Peter Robert Norfolk , OBE (born December 13, 1960 in London ) is a retired British wheelchair tennis player .

Career

Peter Norfolk has been in a wheelchair since he was 19 years old due to a motorcycle accident. He only started wheelchair tennis at the age of 30 and became a professional the following year.

Norfolk, who plays in the quadriplegic class , reached the top of the world rankings for the first time in September 2003. He won the Australian Open five times: 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013. He won the US Open in 2007 and 2009. In 2006, 2009 and 2010 he secured the title at the Wheelchair Tennis Masters . He also celebrated several major tournament victories in doubles. He won the Australian Open in 2011 and 2012, the French Open in 2012 and at the US Open he reached the final three times. He won the Masters in doubles in 2003, 2004 and 2010.

At the Paralympic Games , Peter Norfolk took part three times since the first quadriplegic class was held in Athens in 2004 . In 2004 and 2008 in Beijing he won the gold medal in singles, in 2012 in London he failed in the quarterfinals. In doubles he won the silver medal in 2004 and 2012, and in 2008 he won bronze. In all three games he competed with different partners. At the 2012 Games in his own country, he was the flag bearer of the British Paralympics team. He ended his career in 2013.

Peter Norfolk is married with two children. In 2005 he was appointed an MBE , and in 2009 he was appointed OBE .
