Peter Price (Bishop)

Peter Bryan Price (born May 17, 1944 ) is a British Anglican clergyman . He was Bishop of Bath and Wells from 2001 to 2013 .

Life

He was trained as a teacher and worked as a teacher until he was accepted into Oak Hill Theological College . In 1974 he was ordained a deacon , in 1975 he was ordained a priest. He was initially four years in church service at Christ Church in Portsdown . He then became a chaplain with Scargill Community in North Yorkshire from 1978 to 1980. He served as a chaplain at St Mary's in Addiscombe for eight years , first as senior priest and later as vicar . From 1988 to 1991 he was Canon Residentiary and Chancellor of Southwark Cathedral .

Price was named Secretary General of the United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel (USPG) in 1992 and has visited more than 20 states. From 1997 to 2001 he was suffragan bishop of Kingston-upon-Thames . In 1999 he was awarded the Cross of Nails .

Peter Price was named 77th Bishop of Bath and Wells in 2001. As Spiritual Lord , he was a member of the House of Lords from 2008 to 2013 . Price retired at the end of June 2013.

He was a regular radio broadcaster for BBC World Service and Independent Radio in London and appeared on a series for BBC Radio 2 and Newsnight . Price has written several books; Most recently, Undersong - Listening to the Soul was released in 2002 .
