Peter Rauth (born June 9, 1828 in Rum near Innsbruck , † 1896 in Heidelberg ) was an Austrian portrait painter.

Rauth studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich from October 30, 1852 and received his matriculation on December 31, 1852.

After graduating, he lived in Vienna and later in Heidelberg and worked as a portrait painter. He portrayed a. a. the young Emperor Franz Joseph I and the Empress Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary . He also painted altar leaves, u. a. for the churches in Karres and Terfens in Tyrol .

  1. according to birth entry in the baptismal register of the Thaur parish 1815–1828 , Folio 117, available at Matricula-online.eu . Deviating from this, the Biographical Lexicon of the Empire of Austria names Mils bei Hall as the place of birth.
