Peter Mociulski von Remenyik , better known as Peter Rock (born September 4, 1945 in Vienna ; † April 16, 2016 in Viña del Mar ) was a Chilean singer of Austrian origin. One nickname was El Faraón del Rock (Pharaoh of Rock). He was the uncle of Alain Johannes , a rock guitarist.

biography

The son of Austrian emigrants , Peter Rock came to Santiago with his family in 1955. He dropped out of school at the Liceo José Victorino Lastarria to devote himself entirely to music. He participated in radio broadcasts and live performances and founded the group Los Lyons . His career as "el Elvis chileno" (Elvis Chiles) began in 1959 with the album A Date with Elvis . His first hit in Chile was a cover of Such a night , a hit by Elvis Presley . Further covers followed: Nena, no me importa , Algo pasó en mi corazón , La dee dah and Ojalá . His first Spanish hit was the ballad Entre la arena y el mar (by Jorge Pedreros, his partner from Los Lyons). The next hit was Recuerdos de juventud . In 1965 he was on a European tour. He returned to Chile in 1979 and took part in the television program Jappening con ja . During the 1980s he appeared on several television programs, including the International de la canción de Viña del Mar Festival in 1990.

At the end of 2004, Peter Rock released an album with covers of rock 'n' roll classics called Rock 'n' Roll is alive . In 2005 he took part in the TV show Rojo Vip on TVN .

In early 2014 he made the film Blood Sugar Baby and made his acting debut in the role of Don Fabiano. Before the film was shown in cinemas, there was an exhibition at the Santiago Film Festival ( SANFIC ) in October of the same year . Peter Rock visited the exhibition and announced his deteriorating health. It was originally thought to be polyneuropathy . A later more precise diagnosis confirmed amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Peter Rock died on April 16, 2016 in Viña del Mar.

On July 12, 2012, he sang for the third season of the TV show Mi nombre es ... , imitating Louis Armstrong and qualified for the semifinals.
