Peter Romney

Peter Romney (born June 1, 1743 in Dalton-in-Furness , Lancashire (now Cumbria ), † May 1777 in Stockport , Cheshire ) was an English painter.

Life

Romney was the son of the cabinet maker John Romney . The painter George Romney was his brother. In the years 1759 to 1762, like his brother, he received his first artistic training in his father's workshop. Later he also became the student of Christopher Steele.

Then his wanderings took him all over the kingdom. Romney worked in London in 1765 and moved to Manchester two years later . In 1772 he worked in Bradford and two years later he found his livelihood in Cambridge . In between, however, he was always working in other places for a short time.

Peter Romney died in Stockport, Cheshire in May 1777 at the age of 34.
