Peter Schels

Peter Schels (* 1967 ) is a German filmmaker. He specializes in the conception, realization and production of corporate films . In addition, he works as a lecturer for corporate film at the Bavarian TV Academy, the Ludwig Maximilians University and the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences, as well as a consultant for strategic corporate communications.

Childhood, youth and education

Peter Schels grew up in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . He is the brother of Evelyn Schels , who also works in the film industry. After graduating from high school in 1987, he completed his military service with the 233rd Mountain Infantry Battalion in Mittenwald. In 1989 he began studying at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, which he completed in 1994 with a master's degree in communication sciences, politics and psychology. During his studies, he completed a large number of internships and worked as a radio host at Radio Oberland in Garmisch.

Professional background

After completing his studies, Schels began his career in 1995 as a film and series buyer for the German-speaking TV broadcaster RTL . Here he was responsible for the acquisition of numerous films and series for the station group, including through output deals with Warner Brother Studios, Buenavista and Universal.

From 1997 to 2003 he was editor-in-chief, producer and director at GAT Film- und Fernsehproduktion, responsible for the development of various show and game formats. Among other things, he was responsible for the production of the “ ARD Lottoshow ” ( ARD ), “ Switch ” ( ProSieben ), “CRAZY - Die Show” ( RTL II ) and “Kleine Ganz Gross” ( Sat.1 ). After a failed project, he briefly switched to the production company CATAGO Entertainment, where he produced the formats "Du mich auch" and "VW Lupo - 80 Days" as Head of Development, before returning to GAT in 2000.

In 2004 he founded the production company Al Dente Entertainment together with Oliver Berger, the son of Roland Berger . This specializes in the production of corporate films, increasingly in German-speaking countries. Among other things, she produces recruiting films, image films, trade fair films, explanatory videos and video content marketing for social media. Al Dente Entertainment achieved a stir throughout Germany in 2014 when they produced the image film "S 'Leben is a Freid - The mother of all image films" with SIGMA as sponsor. Schels developed the script and directed. The popularity of the film is based on the humorous amalgamation of classic image film elements (e.g. bombastic images, deep speaking voices, partly anglicized phrases from the context of entrepreneurship) with the inconspicuousness of a fruit stand. The portrayal was the owner of the fruit stand, Dieter Schweiger , who gained national media fame as a result of the film. Al Dente Entertainment received national and international film awards for this and many more of the more than 250 realized projects.

Schels is often booked as a speaker for meetings, seminars and conferences on the subjects of corporate communication and strategic marketing. He also works as a freelance writer for management and communication magazines and acts as an interview partner. Schels is also a member of the jury of the New York Festival and the Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards.
