Peter Tupy

Peter Tupy (born November 8, 1946 in Prague , † December 18, 2005 ) was a Czech-British cameraman , animator and special effects artist.

Tupy was the son of a communist aircraft engineer. He studied graphic design in Prague and was on vacation in London in 1968 when Warsaw Pact troops crushed the Prague Spring . He did not return and studied briefly at Dartington College of Arts . After a short time he got a job in Bob Godfrey's animation studio . In 1980 he founded an animation and special effects studio. He made a reputation for himself as a cheaper and innovative alternative to the large special effects studios and created effects for commercial films and works by students.

Tupy worked for Eddy Grant , Enya , Elvis Costello , Kirsty MacColl, and The Art of Noise . He has lectured at the Royal College of Art , St Martin's School of Art and the National Film and Television School . His short films These included Transit (1997), 1001 Nights (1998) and Stressed (1994) were nominated for the BAFTA award, which he won in 1985 for the effects in the television series Max Headroom .
