Peter Wagensonner

Peter Wagensonner (born June 28, 1956 in Pfeffenhausen ) is a German sculptor .

life and work

After training as a nurse, Peter Wagensonner worked in intensive care units in Munich hospitals until 1981. In the following three years he trained as a wood turner . Until the end of 1986 he worked as a wood turner at a company that made the stage sets for the Bavarian State Theater on Gärtnerplatz .

In 1987 Wagensonner co-founded the Munich artist group OK 9 and set up his first studio in the same year. He attended the Academy of Design in Munich until 1989 , was a student in Gottfried Böckelmann's master class at the Hildesheim University of Applied Sciences in 1988 and then went on to work as a freelance sculptor.

Large sculptures were shown in several rooms at the exhibition Lebensbäume_Lebensräume 2007 in Erlangen . The awarding of the Culture Prize of the District of Passau 2010 was combined with a comprehensive exhibition in the Museum Kloster Asbach .

Wagensonner sculpts naturally grown wooden formations, which he turns into spheres, among other things. By hollowing out tree trunks, he creates individual sculptures or arranges them in groups. He works with individual trees when the traces of life become visible in their growth form. He forms balls from overgrown tree parts and uses shrubs such as boxwood and laburnum, fruit trees such as walnut, cherry and plum as well as woods that have a lively pattern through mushrooms, such as beech, birch or burl wood.

He produced works for companies such as Rolls-Royce , Volkswagen and Hugo Boss . For the Clean Tech Media Award , which has been presented since 2008 , Peter Wagensonner produces wooden balls with engraved aluminum plaques that name the winner.
