Peter Zacher

Peter Zacher (born November 10, 1939 in Glauchau , † February 1, 2014 in Dresden ) was a German musicologist and journalist .

Life

Zacher graduated from high school in Glauchau. From 1957 to 1960 he studied Protestant theology and musicology at the University of Leipzig . In 1960 he moved to Dresden and began studying measurement technology at the Technical University of Dresden .

After graduating in 1965, he worked as an interpreter and English translator in the technical and scientific field. In 1980 he met the composer Mikis Theodorakis . In the next four years he campaigned for a total of seven world premieres of the composer in the GDR . From 1980 he wrote as a cultural journalist for newspapers such as Die Union and Dresdner Latest News . He wrote programs for several music festivals such as the Salzburg Festival . He worked on a concert music guide that was published by Harenberg Verlag .

From 1965 to 1990 he was a member of the CDU (GDR) . From 1989 to 1990 he was a consultant to Group 20 . For Alliance 90 / The Greens Zacher belonged from 1990 to 1994 the Dresden city council and 1998-2004 the Dresden City Council on. At times he was chairman of the culture committee there.
