Peter Zauner
Peter Zauner (born December 1, 1886 in Pöttsching ; † June 26, 1973 there ) was a smallholder , village music director , church musician and, in the winter months, also a music teacher . He became known primarily as the composer of the Burgenland national anthem .
Life
Peter Zauner was the son of a small farmer and master shoemaker . During his military service in Vienna he had received from 1903 music lessons and later played as first violinist in the chapel Carl Michael Ziehrer . During the First World War he was a medical sergeant and after his return to Pöttsching he founded the brass band . When he composed the national anthem in 1936, the band had long since achieved supraregional importance.
Works
From 1901 to 1968 he created a total of 234 compositions, of which the national anthem was his 58th work. Another work by Zauner, known in the German-speaking world as a folk music classic from Burgenland , is the Wieser Graben-Polka (also known as a reminder of Brennberg ).
