Peter de Roo (* 1839 in Belgium; † September 7, 1926 in Portland (Oregon) ) was a Belgian Catholic priest and amateur historian living in the USA.

Life

In 1872 he went to Oregon as a priest in the bishopric of Baker City , where he worked with the exception of a few years for research at the Vatican Archives until his retirement. From 1873 to 1886 he was pastor of St. Francis de Sales in Baker City , then of St. Mary's in Pendleton . In 1881 he received the honorary title of Monsignor .

He wrote a two-volume history of America before Christopher Columbus and a five-volume work in defense of Pope Alexander VI. (Rodrigo Borgia).

History of America before Columbus

The two-volume work gives an overview of the classical writers (e.g. Plato ) and cites longer excerpts from Timaeus and Critias in support of his conclusion that the ancient Greeks had knowledge of America and that the history of Atlantis was an expression of this.

Material for a History of Pope Alexander VI, his Relatives and his Time

The work, published in 1924, comprises five volumes with the following titles:

  1. Family de Borgia
  2. From the cradle to the throne
  3. Pope Alexander VI as a supreme pontiff
  4. Pope Alexander VI as a temporal prince
  5. Alexander VI and the Turks. His death and character

This allegedly refutes the following facts recognized as facts in historiography:

The Italian author duo Monaldi & Sorti used his work in their novel "The Doubts of Salai". Essential alleged "findings" of de Roos have flowed into the novel. De Roo's work and its allegedly conspicuous non-consideration in research is discussed in the appendix (“An Apolog”).
