history

Evidence suggests that there was a church of Santa Maria in Kirchberg - today in Lobeda - in 967 . The predecessor building of St. Peter's Church was first mentioned in a document in 1228. It was destroyed in the Saxon Civil War (1448-1451).

Construction activities

The nave was rebuilt in 1489 and the Gothic choir around 1500. In 1556 the stone pulpit was installed .

In 1749/50 the nave was vaulted. There was a general renovation of the church with the installation of the double galleries and an organ gallery for a Scherff organ .

In 1868 the bell tower was walled and in 1906 the interior of the church was restored.

During the last renovation in 1965–1967, ceiling and wall paintings by an unknown master from 1490 were exposed.

In 1977 the Gotha master organ builder Rudolf Böhm installed a new organ with four registers , a manual and a suspended pedal .
