Petra Petitpierre

Petra Petitpierre (born as Frieda Kessinger May 13, 1905 in Zurich ; died December 23, 1959 in Murten ) was a Swiss painter, draftsman and graphic artist.

Life

Frieda Kessinger did a commercial apprenticeship from 1921 to 1923. She then took a modeling and drawing course in Zurich with Eduard Bick and studied at the ETH Zurich in 1926/27 . From 1927 to 1929 she attended the Bauhaus in Dessau and took the preliminary course with Josef Albers and Wassily Kandinsky . She became a master class student under Paul Klee , followed this to the Düsseldorf Art Academy in 1931 , where she completed her studies. In 1932 she worked for Fernand Léger in Paris. In 1933 she went back to Switzerland.

In 1934 she married the architect Hugo Petitpierre (1877–1967), they had a child and lived in Murten. In the marriage she had little time to develop artistically, the difficult marriage was later separated, and Petitpierre now worked very intensively. She took part in exhibitions at home and abroad, in 1945 she had a solo exhibition in Bern, which brought her public recognition. Petitpierre was a member of the Allianz Group , the GSMBK and the Lyceum Club. In 1957 she got polyarthritis .
