Petra Weis

Petra Weis (born December 28, 1957 in Duisburg ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1976 at the Johanna-Sebus-Gymnasium in Duisburg, Petra Weis completed a degree in social sciences and history for the teaching post for secondary level II at the Ruhr University Bochum and the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster , which she completed with the first in 1984 Finished state examination . She then worked as a freelance adult education worker and then worked as a research assistant for a member of the state parliament and later for a member of the European Union.

In 1993 she switched to the department for women's policy in the SPD party executive, which she headed from 1999.

Political party

Petra Weis joined the SPD in 1980 and has been a member of the executive committee of the SPD sub-district of Duisburg since 1994. From 1998 to 2001 she was also a member of the board of the SPD district of Niederrhein.

She has been deputy chairwoman of the Duisburg sub-district of the Working Group of Social Democratic Women (ARSP) since 1990 and was also chairwoman of the ARSP district of Niederrhein from 1998 to 2001.

From 1989 to 1993 Petra Weis was a member of the district council of Duisburg city center.

From 2002 to 2009 she was a member of the German Bundestag . Since October 2004 she has been deputy spokeswoman for the Building East working group of the SPD parliamentary group and, from December 2005, also deputy spokeswoman for the parliamentary group on transport, building and urban development .

Petra Weis had entered the Bundestag as a directly elected member of the Duisburg I constituency . In the 2005 Bundestag election , she received 55.9% of the first votes .
