Petreștii de Sus (ung. Felsőpeterd ) is a village in Cluj County ( Romania ). It is part of the Petreştii de Jos municipality .
location
Petreștii de Sus is located in western Transylvania and in the north of the Trascău Mountains . The closest major city is Turda (about 12 km east).
history
Petreștii de Sus was first mentioned in documents in 1407.
population
The 107 inhabitants of the place (as of 2002) all call themselves Romanians . In the last few decades the population of the village has declined sharply (as of 1941: 524 inhabitants).
traffic
The place is remote on the dirt road between Buru (in the Arieș valley ) and Petreștii de Jos. Public transport does not touch the village.
Attractions
Four kilometers north of Petreștii de Sus is the famous Cheile Turzii gorge .
South of the village is the Mănăstirea Schimbarea la Față Cheile Turzii monastery (now Romanian-Orthdox), which was probably first built in the 16th century (originally Greek Catholic) and rebuilt from 1998 to 2000 .
