Petrograd side

The Petrograd side ( Russian Петрогра́дская сторона́ , transcription Petrográdskaja Storoná ) is a historic district of Saint Petersburg in Russia and was created when the city was divided into five districts in 1718 (next to the Admiralty, Moscow and Vyborg side and Vasilyevsky Island ). In 1917 she was as Petrogradski Rajon one of today 18 Rajons. The original district of the Petrograd side lies within today's Petrogradski Rajon, from which the Primorsky Rajon was administratively separated in 1936. The Rajon has had its current limits since 1973.

The Petrogradski Island is the largest island of the Petrograd Side. Home to several attractions, including the St. Petersburg State Medical University, the Austrian court ( Австрийская площадь ), the St Petersburg Mosque (Санкт-Петербургская соборная и кафедральная мечеть) as well as sports and concerts complex yubileyny ( " Юбилейный ").

The Peter and Paul Fortress , one of the oldest structures in the city, is located on Sayachi Island .

The Petrovsky Island is located between the Zhdanovka and the Little Neva . In the south of the island is the Petrovsky Stadium , in the northwest of the Petrovsky Park.

The Aptekarsky Island (Apothecary Island) is north of the Petrograd Side. The Botanical Institute and the St. Petersburg TV Tower are located here .
