history

Petrovice arose on an old trade route from Zittau to Bohemia. The settlement was first mentioned in a document in 1391. The discovery of an ancient Roman coin in neighboring Kněžice from 258 suggests that the settlement is much older. Petrovice was completely sacked by the Hussites and plundered several times during the Seven Years' War .

The inhabitants of Petrovice were initially farmers and forest workers, from the 17th century domestic linen and yarn weaving became more and more popular.

The originally German population was expelled between 1945 and 1946 as a result of the Second World War and the subsequent Beneš decrees . The village fell into disrepair due to the vacancy of the buildings, some were demolished. Today Petrovice has few permanent residents, many buildings are used as weekend houses. On January 1, 1981 Petrovice was a district of Jablonné v Podještědí. In 1991 the place had 156 inhabitants. In 2001 the village consisted of 62 houses in which 154 people lived.
